Duke Loses to Virginia Tech 4-3
ROANOKE,
VA -- The Blue Devils lost to the Virginia Tech Hokies by a
score of 4-3 at the Ice Station. The game was the first of two
in the weekend series between the teams.
The Hokies jumped out first with a goal five minutes into
the first period. The Blue Devils responded with a goal by
Dave Bradley
10 minutes after that. Duke took a 2-1 through the first period
because Robert Fogarty
converted a beautiful power play goal after receiving a nice
pass from Steve Lake about one minute after Bradley's goal.
Behind 2-1, the Hokies responded with a goal in the second
period and two in the third. Duke found itself trailing 4-2
midway through the final period.
Although the Devils had numerous scoring chances throughout
the contest, they couldn't get anything past Robert Stephens,
the Hokie goaltender after the first period until they pulled
goalie Marc
Roitman with around one minute remaining. The Devils
put one past Stephens but couldn't get one more to even the
score. The Devils left the Ice Station frustrated that they
couldn't convert more of their scoring opportunities and looked
for revenge on Saturday.
GAME NOTES
Duke was called for only one penalty, its fewest total of
the season
Duke was 2-for-6 on the power play and Virginia
Tech was 0-for-1.
