The Devils rolled to the 11-6 win thanks to the contributions of an unlikely source: freshman Justin Bieber. Bieber picked a great time to score his first three goals in a Duke uniform. First, he tied the game at 1-1 with a first period goal. Then, about 15 minutes into the second period, he scored two goals on the same shift, giving Duke a 7-4 lead. His third goal turned out to be the game-winner.

Another freshman was also instrumental in the Duke win. Crafty defenseman Drew Evans scored two goals, including a key power play goal eight minutes into the second period that gave Duke its first lead of the game. Evans took a pass from defensive partner Jon Stone and blasted a slap shot from the point into the upper left corner of the goal.

Duke ends the semester with a 3-3 record in the ACCHL and a 6-5 mark overall. With juniors Jeff Lake and Brian Markowitz returning next semester, and more than a month off to take exams and enjoy winter break, Duke has every reason to expect a better performance in the second half of the year. The players will spent winter break practicing at rinks in their hometowns in anticipation of a successful 2003.
