Devils Open the Season On the Road at NC State
DURHAM,
NC -- Duke begins the 2002-03 season at NC
State on September 27. Although the contest is a non-league
game, both teams are hoping to make early statements about where
they stand within the league and in the ACHA.
Duke will be without star forwards Jeff
Lake and Brian
Markowitz, who are spending their first semesters
abroad. However, the game will mark the Duke debut of Lake's
younger brother, a freshman in Durham, along with the rest
of the freshman players on both teams. It will certainly be
interesting to see the future of the ACCHL on display.
NC State enters the game after a somewhat disappointing 2001-02
campaign. The team was hindered by an early season injury
to Nick Sabo, probably the best defenseman in the ACCHL. With
Sabo out, the team lost their team leader, and also had to
look elsewhere for goals, assists, and strong defensive play.
Sabo returns for his senior year in this contest, and Duke
will have to keep a watchful eye on him.
All in all, the game will be important to both teams. Check
out the action at Raleigh's RecZone
on September 27.
