Duke Loses to Georgia Tech, 5-1
ATLANTA,
GA -- The Blue Devils suffered their first lost of the season
by losing the first of two weekend games to Georgia Tech by
a score of 5-1. After a nine-hour bus trip slowed by an unfortunate
oil spoil in South Carolina, the Devils began the game at the
IceForum with bus legs and fell behind quickly, 2-0.
After falling behind, Duke made the score 2-1 on a nice goal
by Joe Freimuth.
Playing his first game as a Blue Devil, Freimuth took a great
pass from Calvin
Hui across the slot and backhanded the puck in the
uppercorner of the goal. The game remained 2-1 at the end
of the first period.
The second period proved to be the turning point of the game.
The Yellow Jackets came out shooting and found the goal three
times on 15 shots. Duke didn't score in the second period
and took a 5-1 deficit to the third period.
In the third, neither team was able to score. Both teams
had several nice scoring chances but the game ended with Georgia
Tech topping Duke 5-1. Duke headed to the team hotel after
the game hoping to rebound for Saturday's game against Georgia
Tech in Atlanta's Philips Arena.
